Freestyle Program

Freestyle Skiing at MSA emphasizes “free skiing” although mogul skiing can be an integral part of the program. Our Freestylers compete in both U.S.A.S.A. and U.S.S.A. Eastern Division Events, the precursor to the Junior Olympics and the Nationals.

We stress a combined training program over a specialized one in an effort to create the all around skier: one who tackles the steeps, bumps, jumps, the park and the pipe with the wisdom of a fierce competitor and the joy of someone out to have a great time.

Mount Snow Academy is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard (Richie) Paradise as Head Freestyle Coach. The Freestyle Program at MSA took a leave of absence for the 2010 season because a high caliber coach was not available. Richie brings a wealth of high level competition experience to MSA as well as solid coaching experience.

Paradise comes from New Hampshire and as a young skier, trained at Attitash. He has trained in the West in the mountains of Utah and Colorado. No stranger to Mount Snow, Richie won the Anti-Gravity Grail Halfpipe in 02/03 and earned 2nd place in the Anti-Gravity Grail
Big Air the same year. The following year, (03/04) Richie stood on top of the podium at Mount Snow’s Snowstyle and took 2nd place in the Mega Mother Hucker Big Air Contest. He also won the New England Freeride Championships at Sunday River, Maine. 04/05 saw Richie win the Dead Presidents’ Rail Jam at Killington. The following year he again took first place at Mount Snow’s Anti-Gravity Grail Mega Mother Hucker Event.

Richie has worked for Fischer Skis since 2002. He has directed numerous camps and clinics for them and he is a Fischer International Freeski Team Member. Mark Berkowitz, Director of Marketing for Fischer, applauds Richie’s decision to head MSA’s Freestyle Team. “I have had the pleasure of working with Richie since 1996 when I coached him. I have seen him gain life and skiing skills year after year. He is a fine athlete”.

Most recently Paradise headed the Cranmore Mountain USSA Freeski Travel Team.

Lynne Sullivan, Director of Mount Snow Academy, expects the MSA Freeski Program to flourish under the leadership of Richie Paradise. “Mount Snow has the best free ski venue in the East. We searched for a year for just the right coach to take advantage of this terrain and we found him”.
